[Dufay Message Board] How to begin with a new medieval music group?

Well, I'm a cellist from Mexico but i've always been interested in medieval music (since I was a little kid) so, recently some colegues and I have decided to form a group. Th main problem we find are the sources and the intepretation line we are going to follow. Also, we don't know exactly by where we have to begin. We ell love medieval music, but some ones are more attracted by ars subtilior, some other by trouvador music, some others love more spanish music (around Alfonso X for example) so, I'm a bit confused and I don't know how to beguin. We are five and we will de maybe six. by now the instruments we want to use are: oud, rabel (I don't know how it is told in english) some traditional arabian presussions (darbuka and bendir) and flutes. This is because of the monetary condition. Also, we have three good male voices and one female voice. We have the "basic" elements I think, but now I would like to know how to proceed. One of our main influences is your group. We like your ideas and the way yo conceive middle age music so I dare to ask you for advise.
Thank you very much.

I'm immensely excited about this news! The music of mediaeval Spain has become terribly trendy all of a sudden, everybody and their dog seems to be performing the Cantigas de Santa Maria. Not half as well as the Dufays, naturally...

I've recently been listening to an album of Muwashah by Lebanese artist, Ghada Shbeir: http://cdbaby.com/cd/shbeir - have a listen, it's excellent.
